Team Pranza Feb 15 Trip from Puerto Lempira to Pranza We helped load cargo for the Kruta River team and Lisagnipura team before our chariot showed up. It turned out to be an OLD OLD green Toyota 2 ton truck. Dr Doug was load-master and packed our gear to the tarp covering the roof in the front half of the truck bed. The back half was for sit-on trunks and 12 team members. Because of my tender back, I as allowed to ride in the cab on a regular seat. That turned out to be a grand idea - the road was as rough as I remembered, and the seat made up the difference so that I arrived in good shape. There are several streams to cross on the way. They have been log stringers with wooden planks across, then planks for the tire tracks. They are all being replaced with concrete box culverts compliments of US AID. The road still splits in to 3 to 5 possible paths through wet spots. We stopped once for the driver to walk the road and choose our path. Some of the pot holes were so large, we created a wake going through them! We left PLP at 10:45 AM and arrived about 5 PM. On the way we stopped for two breaks. One break was at the site of bridge construction. At the site, a homestead had sprung up with diesel generator to power refrigerators to cool beer and soda for the workers. They also had a pavilion with a wood cook stove, like found in the villages, to feed the workers. Free Enterprise at work! As we turned south toward Pranza, on a high ridge, the driver announced we could get cell phone service from one of the two services. But this is 5 miles from Pranza. With only 1 hour until dark, everyone scrambled to get tents up and gear sorted. I got a villager to climb a coconut palm tree to help hang a loop antenna for the radio. We were on the air by 8:30 PM, announcing in e-mail that we had arrived. Cheryl, or team leader, heated water for dry packaged soup for supper. We have tents EVERYWHERE - 7 on the front porch, 2-3 in other rooms. We spent the evening getting used to the local sounds.
