16 Feb: Clinic opened at 8 AM. Moderate number of patients seen today. We were able to hold an 0830 radio net call on 40m despite noisy band. Also again at 1200. Bands have been noisy for making HF Pactor connects today but was pleased to find that I could easily reach KC4TVO's (Bob Rodgers) WinLink RMS Pactor node back in Bakersville, NC, 1262 nautical miles away. Able to route my email traffic through him easily, while other nodes - some closer - did not work for me. Lots of noise & whistling on the 20 me radio band today but it seems to be the most reliable one to use for making our WinLink connections. Doctors saw two female patients who need to get to a OB/GYN doctor so we are trying to arrange to get them out to a hospital. Not sure it can be done given the transportation hurdles. At 2:30 PM I was able to contact net controller (Texas) for the Maritime Mobile Net on 14.300 mHz. Bob Rodgers (KC4TVO)heard us talking and we moved off frequency a bit and had a good chat. We will try again later this PM. We definitely have better radio band conditions this year, making our ability to reach someone in the US in the event of an emergency much improved. 1615: had another good contact w/ KC4TVO on 20m. WA9OTP was also in there but since he and I are only 22 miles apart here in Honduras, we cannot hear one another well on 20m. 40m yes, 20m no. Will be shutting down ops for the day in next 30 min so we can clean up clinic and go to river to get a bath. KI4ZUI/HR8 in Honduras.
