Guidelines for use of Pro-Words.

The website below (an Idaho ARES site) succinctly summarizes pro-words which are proscribed, recommended for use in ARES, CERT, SHARES operations.  Most of these are also among the pro words used by the military services and amateur radio.  These are as close to being “universal” as you are going to get.  What should be avoided are any made-up or colloquial slang, abbreviations, “ten codes” or the like that might be used by individual or local communicators.    Pro-words as outlined at this site are about as close to being “universally-recognized” language as you will encounter. Reviewing these pro-words, they seem right on track with what I have heard used on ham bands, MARS, SHARES. I do not think you would go wrong using these pro-words.
